The Juniper Socks
The Juniper Socks crochet pattern is my go-to, tried-and-true method for stitching textured shortie socks perfect for warm weather. This beginner-friendly crochet pattern is a great steppingstone for those relatively new to crochet, as it uses a combination of basic stitches with slightly more advanced techniques, simple shaping, easy (and optional) color changes, and features an afterthought-style heel. The sock itself is crocheted from the toe up.
This pattern is written “recipe-style,” meaning that you will create your own sock recipe by recording the number of stitches, rounds, and rows you crochet for each section of the sock. While this may seem daunting, fear not: my instructions will carefully guide you through each step so you can customize this pattern to your individual foot size. In the pattern, I provide three starting sizes (Adult Small, Medium, and Large) to begin the Toe Box, and you will then be tailoring the socks’ dimensions to your feet.
In this PDF pattern, you will find:
A detailed 67-page tutorial with 149 step-by-step color photos that teach you exactly how to crochet this sock set (including photos showing you where to place your hook and stitches!)
Instructions provided for crocheting all sections of the sock, including tips for washing, blocking, and sewing in all ends
A comprehensive supply list
Tips that are written as if I am teaching a good friend, so you will encounter minimal abbreviations or crochet jargon
Instructions written in US terms using American English
NOTE: The photo tutorial is included after the written pattern; I recommend either printing out the entire pattern and placing the pages side by side so you can view the photos and text at the same time, or printing only the written pattern and referencing the photos on your device as needed.
Although the instructions are very detailed, I recommend you be familiar with the following stitches that are used in this sock set:
Foundation chain single crochet stitches
Single crochet stitches
Slip stitches
Half double crochet stitches
Sizing Information:
While this pattern is fully customizable, I provide three suggested starting sizes to begin your sock: Adult Small (foot circumference 8 inches and under), Medium (8-9 inches), and Large (9-10 inches)
These sizes are based on your foot circumference, not foot length or shoe size.
Yarn Information:
This pattern is designed with fingering or sock weight yarn, and requires approximately 100 grams to complete a sock set.
Sample socks shown in this listing are crocheted in Dusty Purple and Succulent Garden by Daisy Stitch Co on Texas Strong Fingering (80% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Nylon)
